090225: Genesis 1-3

Genesis 1-2
- “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image.”
- “God saw all that he had made, and It was very good.”
- “By the seventh day, God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work creating that he had done.”
- “The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
- “Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden…”
- God told Adam: “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.”
- Of the many trees in the Garden of Eve, there are only two that has a name: Tree of Life and Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
- How the 1st woman, Eve, was created: “While [Adam] was sleeping, [God] took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.”

Genesis 3 “Fall of Man”
- God curses the serpent.
- God curses the woman: childbearing pain, insecurity of husband
- God curses the man: “through painful toil” will he eat his food
- “The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them… After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.”

090225: Romans 15 & 16

Romans 15
- “We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.”
- Jesus: The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”
- “I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done—by the power of signs and miracles, through the power of the Spirit.
- “I am on my way to Jerusalem in the service of the saints there.” à concept of future missionaries.

Romans 16
- “I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.”

090218: Romans 12 & 13 & 14

Romans 12
“Living Sacrifices”
-“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
-“Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.”
“Love”
-“Love must be sincere.”
-“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”
-“Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath.”
- Proverbs: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
-“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Romans 13
“Submission to the Authorities”
-“The authorities that exist have been established by God.”
-“Then do what is right and he will commend you.”
- Matthew 22:21, Jesus said, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
“Love, for the Day is Near”
-“Whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Romans 14 “The Weak and the Strong”
-“Who are you to judge someone else’s servant?”
-“For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone.”
-“Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another.”
-“Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as evil. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
-“Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves.”

090204: Romans 10 & 11

Romans 10:10
- “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”

Romans 10:19-21
- “Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says, ‘I will make you envious by those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.’ And Isaiah boldly says, ‘I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.’ But concerning Israel he says, ‘All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.’”

Romans 11:2-6 “The Remnant of Israel”
- “Don’t you know what the Scriptures says in the passage about Elijah—how he appealed to God against Israel: ‘Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me’? And what was God’s answer to him? ‘I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.’ So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if by grace, then it it no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

Romans 11:11-24 “Ingrafted Branched”
- “You do not support the root, but the root supports you… Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.”

Romans 11:25-32 “All Israel Will Be Saved”
- “Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.”
- “God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.”
- “For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.”
