TRUMPETS 1-4: JUDGMENT OF THE THIRDS (Revelation 8)
These trumpets announce what is coming: The Bowls of Judgment, which are far worse than the Trumpet Judgments.
1st Trumpet
1/3 of the trees and grass will be burnt up.
2nd Trumpet
A “mountain of fire” (perhaps some type of a meteor) will destroy 1/3 of the sea.
3rd Trumpet
Wormwood will make 1/3 of the waters bitter.
Star = angel
Fallen star = Satan
“A Star fell from Heaven”
- Satan is a fallen angel (Isaiah 14:12; Luke 10:18; Revelation 8:10)
- Study of Satan: Isaiah 13, Ezekiel 28
- This term occurs 54 times in the Bible: 36 times in the New Testament; 7 times in Revelation
- Could this phrase be referring to the Angel of the Abusso? No, because Satan will be a prisoner there for 1000 years. Satan does not govern Hell.
- Satan will lose access to Heaven (Revelation 12:7-12; Job 1:6-12)
4th Trumpet
Darkness will result from 1/3 of the sun, moon, and stars turning dark.
TRUMPETS 5-7: THE THREE WOES (Revelation 9)
"As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair call out in a loud voice: 'Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!'" (Revelation 8:13)
One "woe" is exclaimed for each of the remaining Trumpet of Judgment.
5th Trumpet
Demon locusts will come out of the bottomless pit.
“Locusts have no king.” (Proverbs 30:27)
Yet, we see in Revelation 9:11, the locusts of the 5th Trumpet of Judgment will have a king over them. Hence, the locusts of Revelation 9 aren't literal locusts. They are demonic locusts. Led by who? Led by Gog.
Ezekiel 38 speaks of Gog. Who is Gog?
“The Lord hath shewn me and behold a swarm of locusts were coming, and behold one of the young devastating locusts was Gog the King.” Amos 7:1 (Septuagint)
6th Trumpet
Angels of Euphrates will be released to slain 1/3 of men.
Euphrates
- Is located at the eastern boundary of Israel (Genesis 15:18; Deuteronomy 1:7; Joshua 1:4; 1 Kings 4:21, 24)
- Is also the traditional boundary of east and west: The Romans, even at its peak, lived in constant fear of the Parthian Empire on the other side of the river. The Magi came from the Parthian Empire. The Parthian Empire wasn’t big, but the Roman Empire could never quite manage it.
- Has been referenced since Garden of Eden—Based on the description of Eden, Israel is located where Eden would be
- Sin began here (Genesis 2:14-15; 3:6,7)
- The first murder took place here (Genesis 4:8)
- The first world rebellion took place here: Nimrod, whose name means, “We will rebel” (Genesis 10-11)
- The tower of Babel = Babylon was here; it is the fountainhead of idolatry and false worship.
DURING THE 7-YEAR TRIBULATION, THE EARTH-DWELLERS WILL NEVER REPENT
“Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.” (Revelation 9:21)
Characteristics of Today
Murders: We subsidize murders prior to birth (abortions)
Sorcery, aka, pharmakia (the use of drugs): Pharmaceutical constituency is the largest in Washington DC
Fornication: Today's culture pursue and promote sex
Theft: Institutional and individual theft occurs on a daily basis. Socialism is the plundering of the productive by the accountable. This is the worst kind of theft.
